Introduction

RES4MED and Enel Foundation, in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano, and under the patronage of the African EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) and the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), organize the two weeks advanced training course with a view at the African challenges "Integration of renewable energy solutions in Mediterranean electricity markets".
The training aims at providing participants with a set of technical, economic and regulatory tools to assess the most appropriate solutions in different energy contexts for an efficient and effective integration of renewables in the electricity market, whilst nurturing an international network of experts.
The course is addressed primarily to High-achieving individuals serving in public institutions, energy companies, energy centers, universities and research agencies operating in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries and in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The course will be held in English; a good working knowledge of the language is required.

Target audience

  • 25 High-achieving individuals coming from the following Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries (SEMCs): Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey. Places are available for open registration. The 25 selected participants will be awarded a full scholarship that will cover travel and accommodation costs as well.
  • Up to 10 High-achieving individuals coming from Sub-Saharan Africa. The selected participants will be awarded a full scholarship that will cover travel and accommodation costs as well.
  • 10 Ph.D. students and Researchers from Italian Universities – free tuition fee, participants will have to cover travel and accommodation costs
  • 10 professionals from RES4MED members.
RES4MED promotes a balanced gender mix in the selection of participants, therefore high significance is given to the attendance of women.

Facilitation Reserved to Covering
Full scholarship 25 SEMCs middle managers;

Flights, accommodation, board, transportation, lectures, laboratories and power plant visits
Free tuition fee 10 Ph.D. and researchers from Italian universities Lectures, laboratories and power plant visits (including transportation)


Application procedure and screening of candidates

  • High-achieving individuals from SEMCs (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey) and Sub-Saharan Africa.

    Middle managers from public institutions, national authorities, energy companies, energy and implementing agencies, research institutes, TSOs, DSOs, research institutions and civil society organizations with a seniority between three and six years in the energy field and good knowledge of English.

    A Selection Committee will over-see the process and perform final selection of SEMCs candidates.
    The evaluation of applicants will be completed on the basis of:

    • Motivation Letter, mandatory (.doc or .pdf, to training@res4med.org)

    The attachment of a maximum of two letters of recommendation will be positively evaluated.

    After Selection Committee official approval and anyway by September 16th, RES4MED will send an e-mail confirming those admitted to the Course. Selected applicants will then have to confirm attendance by September 23rd.

  • Ph.D. students and Researchers from Italian Universities

    Politecnico di Milano is responsible for over-seeing the Ph.D. students and Researchers application process and for final selection of candidates. After evaluation of CVs and Motivation Letters and anyway by October 9th, Politecnico di Milano will notify via e-mail those admitted to participate in the course. Selected applicants will have to confirm attendance by October 21st.

    The evaluation of applicants will be completed on the basis of:

Structure

The course foresees a week's lectures on the main technical, regulatory and financial features of electricity markets and associated themes given by qualified international experts, academics and highly skilled technicians. The second week will be dedicated to site visits and relevant technical explanations, to innovative laboratories and to renewable power plants.
The training is structured to favor the exchange of experiences among participants by means of their direct involvement through fruitful interaction in group study activities and communal site visits.
The Advanced Training Course encourages participants to explore multidisciplinary approaches covering technical, economic and regulatory topics integrating:
  • theoretical and academic session
  • market perspective and industrial view.


Duration and location

The training course will last two working weeks (starting November 14th, 2016) and will be held in the first week in an equipped lecture room at the Politecnico di Milano, Bovisa Campus.

A certificate of attendance will be released by RES4MED and Enel Foundation at the end of the course.
